THURTELL, Benjamin (d.), was b. Hopton, Suffolk, Eng., in 1795, and d. in 1854. He came to Canada with his family of two boys and four girls in 1836, settling in Guelph, first on the McIntosh farm of 200 acres, and later secured in addition 150 acres. He was a well educated man, above the average. He was Warden of Waterloo, Wellington and Grey Counties, also District Councillor. He was a member of the English church, and a Liberal in politics. He m. , first , Anne Barber, in Yarmouth, Eng. His second wife was Sarah Anne Davie, of Guelph. Of the surviving issue of the first marriage, a daughter, Harriet, is in Hamilton, and a son, Frank, in Mich. Second issue: George owns and operates 150 acres of the homestead. He is a member of the English church, and a Conservative. He m. Fanny Harland. Issue: Guy, who owns and works 200 acres of the homestead, and Mary.
