NEUBAUER, Valentine , was b. in Bavaria, near Melrischatadt, about 1804, and d. in 1870, at the age of 66. He was a gendarme in Bavaria, for eight or nine years, and a soldier for about the same time, participating in about sixteen battles, and in the Franco-Prussian War. He was a farmer in Germany, and worked at tailoring. He came to Canada in 1868. In religion, he was a Roman Catholic. He m. Laura Marshall. Issue: Charles, in Puslinch; Alexander, in Bavaria; Bantdon (d.); Steven (d.); Mrs. Peter Bauer, Michael, Paul (d.), and Mrs. Joseph Hooper.

Charles F., b. Bavaria, Germany, 1832, came to Puslinch in 1856, having sometime previously set. in Hespler. He learned the tailor's trade in Ger. and has pursued this occupation through life, as well as farming his 200 acres of land , lots 5 and 6, con. 4, Puslinch. He m. Rosena Walter in 1857, and they have had the following issue: Mrs. Ignatius Roth, Mary, Rose, Julia, Christina, Alexander, Charles, and John. The two latter are successful merchants in Waverly, Ia. While Alexander manages the home farm, known as "Mount Pleasant," where he carries on mixed farming, making a specialty of Shropshire sheep, and thoroughbred cattle.

Mr. Neubauer started life in Canada without means, and by his own industry has become a prosperous and substantial citizen of the community. In religion he is a member of the Roman Catholic church, and is a Conservative.

Michael came to Canada in 1868, with his father and mother, and purchased 50 acres, part of lot 27, rear con. 1, and later bought the other half. He is a first-class farmer, and carries on mixed farming. He is a Roman Catholic, and a Liberal in politics. He was President of the Puslinch Agricultural Society for about twelve years. He first m. Jennie Riddle. Issue: Robert, in N.W.T.; Mrs. Philip Lurch, and Frederick. His second wife, was Margaret Eidle. Issue: John, George, Greta, and Freda.
