SWANTON, Walter, Sr ., was b. Selkirk, Scot., 1819. With his brother George he came to Canada in 1845, and set. in Puslinch, where he did chopping and jobbing for several years. In 1852 he went to Eramosa and purchased 150 acres, lot 11, con. 3, upon which he set. In 1857 he m. Elizabeth Fielding. Issue: Andrew, in Bruce Co.; Mrs. J. H. Lane (d.), George, in Guelph; Walter, in Eramosa; William, Elizabeth, and Mrs. Peter Beatty, in Guelph.

George, b. 1860, m. Catherine Fleming. He owns 100 acres on con. 3, Eramosa, which is rented, and with his family he resides in Guelph City. Issue: Laura, Marjory, Florence, and George.

Walter Swanton, Sr., also retired to Guelph City, where he and his wife are passing the evening of their useful lives. He has been a life-long member of the Presbyterian church, and in politics a Liberal. He is highly respected, and enjoys the confidence of all who know him.
