McFARLANE, John
(d.), d. 1848 at 81 years of age. He came to Canada from
Perthshire, Scot., in 1834. He was a cooper by trade, at which he worked in
Hamilton for one year and Dundas for two years. While in Dundas he lost two
sons and his wife to cholera. That year he came to Puslinch Tp., going to the
McRobbies, near Corwhin. Andrew McRobbie went with him and they located on
lot 16, and part of 17, con. 10. Later he bought an acre from Squire
Hammersley, and had the first store on the Brock road in Puslinch Tp. He was
noted for the splendid Scotch whiskey he made and sold, both n Dundas and
Puslinch Tp. He was a well educated man, a Presbyterian and a Liberal. Three
children survived the cholera: Mrs. James Harvey, Duncan and John.
