MASSON, Francis
, was b. Scot., 1827. He emigrated from Scot. in 1854, and cleared the farm of
99 acres, lot 5, con. 8, West Garafraxa, which he now owns and occupies in
conjunction with his son James, carrying on mixed farming. He is a fine man, a
good type of Scotchman, of strict integrity and very patriotic. He owns a fine
heirloom in the shape of a real Highland dirk, with beautifully carved black
oak handle, brass hilt and Highland sheath, which was used by his ancestor at
the famous battle of Culloden, immortalized in Scott's poem, "Lochiel's
Warning." For this dirk Mr. Masson has received overtures from curators of
historical museums, and collectors of antiquarian relics, and could receive a
high figure for it, but money will not induce him to part with it. He is a
Presbyterian and a Liberal , and has been Trustee of the school. In 1859 he m.
