ROBERTSON, Alexander, Sr.
, was b. Perthshire, Scot., 1829. He came to Canada in 1854,
and set. in Glenallan, then called Allanville Tp., of Peel. This place was
named after George Allan, one of the early settlers. At that time there were
only two houses in Allanville, and a great deal of the land was occupied by
negros, fugitive slaves from the U.S. He started as clerk and assistant
Postmaster to George Allan, the first Postmaster. In 1851, before coming, Mr.
Robertson took a trip around the world. He is a Presbyterian, and in politics
a Liberal. He was School Trustee for 12 years, and Postmaster since 1872. He
m. Margaret McDonald, who d. in 1905, age 77. Issue: James, m. Christina
Henderson, set. Drayton; David, set. Drayton; William, m. Nellie Markle,
set. Calgary; Rev. John set. Port Dover, is pastor of the Presbyterian
Church; Alexander, rn. Miss Graves, set. in Carstairs, .N.W.T.; Agnes, and
Elizabeth.
