McPHERSON, Donald
, was b. 1825, in Scot., and d. in 1892, age
67. He came to Canada in 1844. He remained with his parents clearing the
homestead until 1850, when he commenced selling the first
cooking stoves that were used in Puslinch and surrounding townships. A year
or so later, he bought the hotel in Morriston, then a frame building; he also
built the stone hotel that stands there yet. He kept hotel for eight years,
then bought the farm of 122 acres, in the Gore of Puslinch. He was a
Presbyterian, and a Reformer, and never sought or held office. He m. Jessie
McEdwards of Puslinch. George L. McPherson, his son, was b. in 1869. He
owns 96 acres of land on lot 36, con. 8, of Puslinch. He has farmed all of
his life until 1902, when he went to the city for a short time. Finding city
life much less independent than test of a farmer, and believing that the
country life was much better for his children, both for their health and
morals, he decided to return to his farm, where he continues to reside. Mr.
McPherson is a Presbyterian, and in politics, a Liberal. He has never sought
or held municipal office. He m. Kate Cockburn of Puslinch. The children
are: Jessie, Marguerite, and Marion Isabel.
