SCOTT Family . The late Henry Scott was b. in Co. Donegal, Ire., in 1810, where he was raised and received a fair education and learned the shoemaker's trade. At the age of twenty-six, he came to Canada, and, after working at his trade in Acton, for a short time, came to Rockwood. Some time after, he purchased 100 acres, lot 18. con. 2. He m. Mary Ramsey, Oct. 16, 1839, who had the distinction of being the first white child b. in Eramosa. They set. on their Eramosa farm, which he cleared, and there they raised their family. The late Henry Scott was a sterling citizen, energetic and successful, and his wife a worthy helpmate. He was for years an Elder in the Presbyterian Church. Their descendants compose some of the best citizenship, and are most successful as professional men, merchants, and farmers in the localities where they have settled.

His wife d. Oct. 12, 1872, age 51 years, while he d. in 1878, age 69 years. Issue: Mrs. John McKerley, John, Rebecca, Robert, Matthew, James, Walter R., Mrs. John Marshall, and Martha, all b. on the old homestead in Eramosa.

John, b. in 1842, has always lived in Eramosa. Including his grand-children, this branch of the family has the record of having four generations, all born in, and thus far, having spent their lives in Eramosa. John Scott is a leading citizen of the township, where he owns 200 acres, lot 32, con. 5, which in appointments and cultivation is equal to any farm in the section. He set. on this farm in 1863, and cleared it. He has always taken a deep interest in church work; is an Elder in the Mimosa Pres. Church, and has been its Sabbath School Supt., for thirty-five years, also leader of the Praise for thirty years. His son, M. Herbert, now occupies the latter position. John Scott m. Sarah A. Hudson. Issue: Mrs. James Donaldson, Henry H., George A., John R., William J., Robert E., Herbert, Mrs. W. E. Bain, and Laura G., at home.

Henry H., m. Minnie Holmes, set. N.-W. Issue: Verna. George A., m. Lizzie Robb, set. Eramosa. Issue: Lillias and Alice.

John R., m. Priscilla McClellan, set. Manitoba.

William J., m. Ada Hughes, set. Man. Issue: Myrtle, and Norma. Robert E., and M. Herbert, unm., assist on the home farm.

Robert, second son of the late Henry Scott, is a merchant and leading citizen of Beeton, Ont. Matthew, educated at Rockwood Academy, and Dr. Tasse's celebrated school, Galt, and a grad. in Arts and Theology, McGill College, is a Pres. minister at Hull, Que. James (d.), was a prosperous merchant at Beeton. Walter, unm., owns a farm, in Nassagaweya, and is now retired in Guelph City. He has been a successful farmer, and is an earnest worker in the Presbyterian church.
