MURDOCK, James
, was b. Glasgow, Scot, 1846. His father was drowned and his
mother emigrated to Canada in 1848, with her children, James and Violet. The
latter afterwards became Mrs. George Graham. Mrs. Murdock was the sister of
the late Walter and Gilbert Amos, for whom she kept house for two years, when
she m. the late John Wingfield. Issue: Mrs. Alexander Fyfe, William of
Hespeler, and George, on the old homestead.
James Murdock was raised and educated in the "Paisley Block" and learned the blacksmith's business with John Derby, of "Derby's Corners," remaining with him from 1860 to 1870. In 1873 he came to Marden, where he has since carried on carriage making and blacksmithing on his won account. He is a man of strict integrity and is one of the "land markers" at Marden, where he has successfully carried on his business for over thirty years, and has the confidence and respect of the entire community. He m. Jeannie Bigby. Issue: Mrs. Charles J. Atkinson, Mrs. Angus McIntyre, John and Mary. John, m. Maggie McLeod, and assists his father in the shop.
