MOUNCE, Richard . This respected citizen of Guelph Tp., was b. in Devonshire, Eng., in 1836, where he spent his early life. At the age of twenty-one, he came to Canada, and lived for awhile in Whitby Tp., afterwards purchasing a farm in Darlington on which he lived until 1874, when he sold it and came to Guelph Tp., purchasing lot 10, con. 11., where he has since resided. He m. Ellen Willett, and they had the following issue: William (d. unm.); John E., Frederick (d. unm.); Adeline, and Laura A., who m. H. J. Pope, a prominent business man of Lacombe District, N.-W.T. John E., m. Miss Metcalf dau. of Michael Metcalf of Nichol. She d. leaving one daughter, Lizzie M.

John E., operates the homestead farm, in Guelph Tp., his father having practically retired. He carries on mixed farming, and makes a specialty of fine poultry, Plymouth Rocks and Orfingtons on which he took sweep-stakes at the Guelph Midwinter Fair 1905.
