BOWMAN, William , b. in Northumberland, Eng., 1828; d. Jan. 22, 1906: m. Elizabeth Walker, who still survives in Eng. In 1854, and came to Canada the same year, being a pioneer in Egremont, where he purchased 100 acres, lot 1, conc. 8, and settled. He cleared this farm, and lived here until a few years ago, when he moved to Guelph Tp. Issue: Mrs. John Mountain, Hannah, Mrs. Jonathan Batty, James, William R., and Thomas R.

James, b. and raised in Egremont. In 1891 he came to Guelph Tp. and in 1896 bought "Elm Park Farm," adjoining the city, and containing 150 acres. Here he has extensively engaged in the breeding of Aberdeen-Angus cattle, Clydesdale horses and Suffolkdown sheep. He took some of the principal prizes on the former, at the Pan-American Exhibition, Buffalo; also took prizes for fat cattle. In 1901 he bred the grand champion carcass which took the prize over all breeds at International Exhibition, Chicago; also exhibited grand champion carcass of Canada the same year at Guelph. He took first and second prizes for best flock of Suffolkdown sheep at the World's Fair, St. Louis, 1904. Mr. Bowman has exhibited in Canada since 1893, and has six times had the champion Aberdeen-Angus bull in Ontario at the large fairs, and three times in Quebec, and in the Aberdeen-Angus class has more of the better prizes to his credit since 1893 than any other breeder in Canada. He is the President of the Aberdeen-Angus Society in Canada, and Vice-President of the Suffolkdown Association in the U.S. at Des Moines, Ia. His cattle, horses and sheep are recorded in the Canadian and American stock and flock books.

He m. Mary J. Simpson. Issue: Jennie W., Mary E., Bessie and Margaret R. "Elm Park Farm" is one of the most attractive in the township.

William R. m. Ada Teskey; owns and lives on homestead in Egremont. Issue: Harry, Norman, Ruth, Joseph, Edith, Warren, and Beatrice. Thomas R., also b. and raised in Egremont, but of late years has lived in Guelph Tp., where he owns lots 6 and 7, conc. 4A., 100 acres. He carries on mixed farming and owns a flock of Suffolkdown sheep. He m. Emma Norris. Issue: Earl, Godfrey and Irene.
