MORRISON, Matthew, (d.) was b. Co. Sligo, Ire., in 1825, d. in Minto 1903. This worthy pioneer was raised and educated in Ire. In 1854 he m. Jane Morrison, and emigrated with his young bride to Canada. They stayed near Toronto for one year, and in 1855 came up to Arthur, purchasing and settling on lot 21 con. 11. In this he was ably assisted by his life partner, and success under such circumstances was inevitable. They became prosperous, and the family one of the most respected in Arthur Township. There he lived for thirty-nine years, and in 1894 he purchased lot 100, con. D., Minto upon which he lived until his death. Matthew Morrison was a man of strong religious convictions, a member of the Church of England, and for years held the position of Church Warden. He was upright and honourable in all his dealings, and left a reputation both in Arthur and Minto that would do credit to any man. He left a widow.
