QUENNELL, Walter
. This respected pioneer of Minto was b. in Eng., in 1833, and came to Canada
with his parents settling in Chinguacousy Tp, in 1842. He was raised there and
m. Mary Brown. They came to Minto in 1855, being pioneers in that township,
where he purchased a bush farm in con. 2, and cleared it, afterwards increasing
his holdings to over 300 acres. He is a man of more than ordinary ability,
successful and progressive, and occupies a high position in Minto and
Palmerston, where he has lived retired since 1894. He was one of the first to
introduce thoroughbred Shorthorns into the township, and the origin of many of
the present herds can be traced to his stock. He, with the late Jonathan Lee,
Sr., was one of the first promoters of the Methodist church in the section. He
has always taken an active interest in the church, and has held the different
offices in it. In politics he is a Liberal, and while taking a healthy interest
in public affairs has never sought municipal honors. He has the following
surviving children: William H., Edward J., John W., Martha J., who m. and set.

William H. and George A. operate the Minto farms; Edward J. lives in Chicago, and John W. is a large farmer in N. Dakota. Like their respected father the sons compose the best of citizenship where they reside. From: Historical Atlas of the County of Wellington, Ontario. Toronto:Historical Atlas Publishing Co., 1906 |
