RITCH, Robert (d.), b. Orkney Island, Scot. The late Robert Ritch was a farmer and fisherman in Scot. he m. Mary Fotheringham, and d. in 1869, age 57. His widow and eight children came to Canada in 1871, and set. in Blanchard Tp., where they remained two years. In 1873 they removed to Maryborough, and bought the west half of lot 6, con, 12, upon which they set., and remained for 18 years. They then purchased 200 acres, east half of lot 10 and west half lot 11, con. 11. Issue: William, James and Mary; Eliza, who remained in Scotland., where she inherited her uncle's farm; David (d.), Edward (d.), Robert and John.

William, James and Mary are unm., and live retired at Drayton.

Robert, m. Maggie Harper, and set. in Hamilton, where he is a carpenter, and has charge of Greenings wire works, Issue: Edward A..

John, b. Scot., came to Canada with his mother when about six years of age, and was practically raised in Maryborough. In 1900 he purchased 100 acres, the west half of lot 2, con. 10, Peel., which he sold in 1906, and now in company with his brother owns and runs the Drayton Livery. He m. Rachel o. Duff, dau. of William Duff, of Peel Tp. Issue: Muriel and Robert. He carries on mixed farming, and makes a specialty of thoroughbred cattle, with which he has taken many prizes, among them first prizes at Drayton fair in 1905. He is Secy. of the Peel and Drayton Agricultural Society, and is much interested in everything that pertains to agriculture. The family have been breeders of thoroughbred cattle for years, and have competed at many fairs in this section, taking some of the first prizes for thoroughbred cattle and Clydesdale horses.
