TOWRISS, John , (d.), was b. Lincolnshire, Eng., in 1819, and d. in 1886, age 67. He came to Canada in 1850, settling first in Brockville. In 1851, he came to Peel, and set. on east half, lot 2, con. 17, owning 200 acres at the time of his death. He was a member of the Church of England, and a Reformer in politics. He never sought or held municipal office. He m. Frances Ann Hudson, b. Eng., who d. in 1898, age 76. Issue: George, Mrs. William D., Stephenson (d.); Mrs. John Rustin (d.); Thomas, William, David, Mrs. Geo. Cowan, Peel, and John Robert.

George, m. Emma Parker (d.), and set. in Luther. Issue: John, Joseph, Sarah, Fanny, Robert, David, Susan, George, and Ella.

Thomas, set. on the homestead, and d. in 1902, age 52. He was prominent in municipal office, and a Conservative in politics. He m. Rebecca Annie Hughes. Issue: Bessie M., Charles A., Ada R., and John A.

William, m. Margaret Hamilton, and is living retired in Rochester, N.Y. Issue: Edward, Fanny, Oliver, and John.

David, m. Elizabeth Belton, set. in Maryborough. Issue: Tennie, Lotta, David, Agnes, and Samuel.

John Robert, was b. on the old homestead, lot 2, con. 17, which he now owns. He carries on mixed farming and feeds cattle for export. He raises pedigreed Durham cattle, and is the owner of some imported Clydesdale horses, which he raises for sale, and has also some fine hackney and saddle horses. He is a Director of the Peel, Drayton, and Arthur Spring Stallion Shows, and Fall Exhibitions, also a Director of the Peel and Maryborough Fire Insurance Co.; a Methodist in religion, and an Independent in politics, voting for the best man, rather than party offices. Mr. Towriss is very popular, and is generally spoken of as a rising young man in public affairs He m. Mary Elizabeth Golding. Issue: Beatrice, Liola, Aroline, John, Goldie, Harold, Lucy, and Colonel, all at home.
