TUCK, John
(d.), was b. Norfolk, Eng., 1816, d. 1874. He came to Canada and set. in
Hamilton in 1836, and in Waterloo Co. on the town line of Guelph Tp. in 1837.
The late John Tuck was a man of natural ability and great industry. He came to
Canada with 1 £ sterling (which he divided with his brother Charles) and a
rugged constitution and a desire to get on in the world. That he succeeded is
evidenced by the large property, consisting of 236 acres of prime land, and
improvements, that his left to his descendants. He was a member of the Church
of England and a Liberal in politics. He m. Sarah Newstead, and they had the
following issue: Joseph, set. Mt. Forest; George, set. Clifford; Benjamin and
James, set. Minto; Abraham (d.), Charles, Augustus (d.), Mrs. Luttrel, set.
N.-W.; John, set. on and owns the old homestead in Waterloo; William, set.
Guelph and Henry (d.).
Charles was b. and raised on the old Waterloo homestead, He m. Jane Grieve. Issue: Grace. He owns 140 acres and lives on his farm on the Guelph Tp. line near Mosborough, and is a prosperous and substantial citizen. From: Historical Atlas of the County of Wellington, Ontario.
