HAMMER, John
(d.), was b. Germany, 1820, and d. in 1882, age 62. He was a shoemaker by
trade, and came to Canada in 1852, and worked at his trade in Wellesley
Township for about eleven years. He then went to Mornington Tp., and purchased
75 acres, upon which he lived until his death. He also owns 75 acres in
Maryborough Tp. He is a Roman Catholic and a Liberal. He m. Theresa Colbaher,
who survives him at the age of 81. During the last fifteen years, since her
husband's death, she has learned to read English, and is so conversant with the
language that she no longer takes the German newspapers. Issue: Francis, Peel;

Joseph, London; Paul, John, Oregon, and Mrs. Hahn, Wellesley Tp.
Paul, was b. in 1864, and worked on the homestead until 1903, when he came to Maryborough, and bought 150 acres, east half of lot 8, con. 1, where he owns and operates a saw-mill, doing good work, and having a first-class trade. He also carries on mixed farming, and is just starting to raise and breed thoroughbred cattle. He is a Roman Catholic, and a Liberal. In 1904, he m. Johannah Detrich. Issue: Loretta.
