MAXWELL, James . This respected pioneer of Minto was b. in Forfarshire, Scot., in 1831, and in early manhood came to Canada, settling first at Hamilton, and in 1855 coming to Minto, where he purchased 150 acres of land, clearing and living on the same until he retired from active life with a competency. His success in life was due entirely to his own energy and good management, as he came to the country without money. He has always occupied a foremost position in the confidence and respect of the community, of which he has been a member for half a century. He m. Agnes Bruce. Issue: James R., Ellen, John, Mary, Elizabeth, William, David B., George and Susan (d.).

David B. was b. on the Minto homestead, which he now owns. He ran the same for some years, and in 1901 became a partner with Joseph Chalmers in the hardware business in Palmerston. They do a very extensive business carrying a stock of goods that covers every variety in their line. He m. Miss Chalmers. Issue: James C., Agnes E. and Ellen B.
