LINDERMAN, Daniel
(d.), b. Orange Co., N. Y., 1800. He came to Canada, and set. in Guelph in the
early thirties, with his father, the late John Linderman, who built Linderman's
sawmills in Puslinch, which were among the first in the country. These
sawmills, the late John Linderman operated until his death in 1856.
The late John Linderman, also kept an hotel for some years in Guelph. Daniel, his son, was a blacksmith by trade, and followed this occupation in Guelph for many years, and was a well known man. He built and owned one of the first cutters in Wellington Co. His cutter was a great novelty when it first made its appearance, and was often borrowed by the elite of Guelph. His son, John Linderman, of Eramosa, still possesses this relic of by-gone days. The late Daniel Linderman served during the trouble of 1837-8. He m. Francis Sallows. Issue: Mrs. Margaret Watts of Guelph city and John. In 1853, the late Daniel Linderman bought 150 acres, lot 4, con. 1, Eramosa, and removed there. A few years before his death, he retired to Guelph, where he died, age 87 years. His wife died in 1903, age 82 years. John Linderman, was born in 1841, in Guelph, and was raised and educated in Guelph, and at the Rockwood Academy, attending the latter when James J. Hill, Mr. Bowman, and John and James Phinn, were pupils. He m. Elizabeth McFarlane. No issue: His wife d. in 1895. He resides on the old home farm, where he has lived since boyhood.
