HENRY, David
(d.), was a grandson on this mother's side of Squire Ellis, of Hespler, who
was a British officer when he came to Canada, and a nephew of William Ellis,
Esq., of Hespler, and David Ellis, Esq., and Mrs. George Clemens, of Waterloo.
And a first cousin of Mrs. John Finn, of Waterloo. The late David Henry was b.
in Puslinch 1822; d. in 1900, age 78. He came to Peel and purchased 193 acres,
lots 5, and 6, con. 19, and also 105 acres in Garafraxa. He was a great
exhibitor of stock at the spring and fall shows, and won many prizes on horses,
cattle and sheep. He was also a dealer in horses. He was a Director of the
Arthur Union Agricultural Fair. The late David Henry was a successful man and
left a large property. He was a member of the English church and an Independent
in politics. He never sought municipal office. He m. Emily Pallister, who was
b. London , Eng., and was a dau. of the late Thomas Pallister, who, after
coming to Canada was a merchant tailor on Market Square. She is living, age 58.
Issue: William J., Thomas O., David A. (d.), John A., Eliza A., and Frederick O.
William J. m. Sarah Smith and owns 105 acres on Garafraxa. Issue: George F. Thomas P. m. Margaret Day, and is a retired farmer in Damascus Village, Luther, where he owns a house and 100 acres, one of the finest farms in Luther Township. John succeeded to the homestead in Peel, and also owns 25 acres opposite the homestead in Arthur Tp. He makes a specialty of registered Durham cattle and fine horses. His fine buildings are in first class condition, with water in barns and everything convenient. He is a prosperous, and highly respected in the community. His mother and sister reside with him.
