BRESNAHAM, John
, was b. in Mallo, Cork Co., Aug. 5, 1820; d. Aug. 3, 1896, age 76. He came
to Canada in 1821., and set. first in Ramsay Tp., Lanarkshire Co. in 1860 he
came to West Luther, Wellington Co. At that time the township was only a
wilderness. With his wife and family he rode the greater part of the way in a
wagon. He first cleared enough land upon which to build his house, then
cleared and. improved his farm of 100 acres, and bought an additional 100
acres, now owned by his son's widow. By selling some land on which to build a
sawmill for a mere trifle, be induced the mill owners to erect a mill in
Damascus. Ir. 1877 he petitioned the Government for a post office, which was
granted, and Mr. Bresnaham held the position of postmaster until his death
twenty years later. He was Chairman of the Board of Health for a number of
years before his death. He built a store at Damascus, and was always ready to
help along anything that would aid in building up the village. In religion
Mr. Bresnaham is a Roman Catholic, and in politics he is a Liberal. He m.
Anne Malone on Nov. 4, 1850. Mrs. Malone is living, age 80. Issue: Mrs.
