DULMAGE, William.
The Dulmage family is of German origin, and with other Palatines
left Germany, and found a refuge in Ireland, where in 1746, David Dulmage, the
pioneer of this family in America, was b. Some years later he emigrated to
America, and upon the breaking out of the Revolutionary War he took sides with
the British. In 1786, after peace had been declared, he was one of the pioneer
band of U.E. Loyalists who came to Canada and set. on the Bay of Quinte. These
intrepid pioneers were the first settlers in Upper Canada, and have exercised
an untold influence upon its destiny and have given to the country both
statesmen, soldiers and substantial citizens. The Dulmage family are connected
by marriage and otherwise with some of the leading families of the Bay of
Quinte District. William Dulmage is a son of the late Jonathan Dulmage and a
great-grandson of David Dulmage, the old U.E.L. pioneer. Jonathan Dulmage, m.
Christina Wright, of P.E. Co., who was also of U.E.L. stock. He emigrated with
his family to Huron Co. in 1862 and lived there until his death.
William Dulmage, his youngest son, was b. in P.E. Co. in 1853, but was principally raised in Huron Co. He m. Mary J. McVetty, and in 1889 purchased lot 42, con. 4, Minto and set. there, although he now lives in Harriston. The farm is now operated by his son, H. A. Dulmage. William Dulmage has followed the business of buying and shipping cattle for some years, and is a well-known and respected citizen. From: Historical Atlas of the County of Wellington, Ontario.
