DAY Family, The
. The founder of this family in Canada was the late Daniel Day who came from
Yorkshire, Eng., to Canada on the same ship with the Watsons and Harlands. He
m. Miss Watson and only lived a few years after settling in Canada, while his
wife d. in 1867, age 85 years: They settled first near the present Guelph
Cemetery. Issue: John W., Daniel, William, David, Robert, Richard, Thomas, Mrs.
Arch. Smith, Mrs. Robt. Scott and Mrs. Alfred Watson. Their son, the late John
W. Day, was b. in Yorkshire, Eng., in 1809, and came to Canada with his parents
in 1831. He m. Elizabeth Elworthy in 1838, and purchased 100 acres, lot 7, con.
11, Guelph Tp., where he lived and raised his family. Issue: John, Mrs.
Alexander S. D. Hill, Leonard and Joseph D.
Mr. Day cleared this farm and became one of the most respected and well-to-do citizens in the locality, where be spent his long and useful life. He was a man of more than ordinary intelligence, and always kept abreast of the times in every department of life. He d. in 1901, age 82, while his wife d. in 1889, age 79 years. Of his issue: John became a citizen of Minnesota; Leonard, m. Sarah Ginrick, and set. in W. Garafraxa. Joseph, m. Elizabeth Watson, dau. of the late Charles Watson. He lives on and owns the old homestead, where he carries on mixed farming, making a specialty of Lincolnshire sheep, and also raises some thoroughbred cattle.
