RUSSELL, Thomas H
. The subject of this sketch was b. in Leicestershire, Eng. in 1846. He
received a fair education and later became a shepherd. In 1877 he m. Miss Clara
A. Hunt, dau of Thomas Hunt, a miller of Derbyshire, and of the old Hunt family
who were land owners. After his marriage hie started farming on his own
account, ban in 1884 through the acquaintance of William Howitt in England, who
had m. his wife's cousin, Miss Morris, he was induced to go to Canada with a
letter of introduction to Mr. Charles Howitt, of Guelph, with whom he obtained
employment for a short time, and later with Mr. Harold Sorby, and still later
with F. W. Stone, for six years, having charge of the cattle on the Patterson
farm; from there he went to Milwaukee, Wis., and was Sexton of All Saint's
Cathedral under Bishop Knight, for over three years. In 1895 he purchased a
farm in the 4th con. of Guelph Tp., where he has since resided. Mr. Russell and
his family are members of the Church of England, and in politics he is a
Liberal, He has the respect and confidence of all who know him Issue: John W.
