CAMPBELL, Peter
(d.), was b. county Donegal, Ire., and d. at the age of 78. He came to
Canada at the age of 16, and worked for farmers and at lumbering for some
years in New Brunswick. He then came to Arthur and took up the present
homestead of 190 acres, lot 30, O.S.R. He was an industrious man, much
respected, and straight forward in all of his business dealings. He educated
all his family, and acquired a farm, valued at the time of his death at $8,000.
He was a Roman Catholic, and in politics a strong Liberal. He m. Mary
Madden, who d. at the age of 67. Issue: Bernard, Wis.; John, Montana; Hugh,
in Arthur; Thomas, Dakota; Peter, Toronto; Sarah (d.) ; and Mrs. McDonald,
Toronto; Michael, Mrs. Cokeley and Catharine, Toronto.
Michael is the present owner of -the homestead. He carries on mixed farming, breeding thoroughbred Durhams, and is very much up-to-date in all of his methods of farming. He is a Roman Catholic, and a Liberal. He m. Mary, eldest daughter of Thomas Brown, of Arthur. Issue: Helena, Mary (d.), Anastatia, Cecelia, Michael, Lawrence, and Thomas.
