MOORE, John , b. in Devon, Eng., in 1842. He came to Canada in 1855, when 14 years of age, and set. in Darlington Tp., with his parents for 6 years. He then went to the U.S., and joined the army during the Civil War under General Sherman. After the war was over, he returned to Darlington Tp., and worked for two years, and then rented a farm for 14 years. Being attracted by the cheap lands in Arthur, he decided to come up and locate, and purchased 50 acres, part of the present homestead of 150 acres, lot 2, con. 3, 50 acres of which was partly cleared. At first times were hard, but by industry and perseverance, he was enabled to purchase another 100 acres. Mr. Moore now lives in Mount Forest, and has the respect of the entire community. Mr. Moore was a member of the Council for 4 years, and School Trustee for 19 years, and for a long time was President and salesman of the cheese factory. He has been on the Board of Management, and Secretary of his church for some years. In 1865, he m. his first wife Jane Kelly, who d. in 1898, age 58. Issue: Jonathan G., and Franklyn both of whom are in Arthur Tp. In 1903, Mr. Moore m. Mrs. Jas. Hunter.

Jonathan G., resides on the 200 acres. lot 1 and 2, con. 2, where he carries on mixed farming. He m. Mary Jane McLuhan in 1889.

Franklyn Moore, resides on part of the homestead, where he carries on Mixed farming. He m. Grace Ann Hunter in 1899,. Issue: Harold (d.), and Mildred A.
