CROSS, James
, b. Eramosa, 1858. He is a son of the late Thomas Cross, a pioneer of the
family, who came from near London, Eng., and set. in Eramosa, in the early
thirties. His wife's maiden name was Jane Black. She d. 1864. Thomas Cross was
a very hard worker, and was accidentally killed by a falling tree, while
clearing, in 1873. His family were: Mrs. John Kirkwood, Hamilton; Robert and
William, Eramosa; James and Mrs. S. Demons, Eramosa.
James purchased the homestead of 100 acres, west half lot 2, con. 5, West Garafraxa, where his wife was b., and where they now reside, settling there permanently in 1893. He has made many improvements, among them a new bank barn 56 x 56. He successfully carries on mixed farming, and is a Presbyterian and a Liberal. In 1883 he m.
