HADDEN, Robert, Sr
. (d.), was b. Kincardine, Scot. He came to Canada in 1840, and purchased 80
acres, lot 5, con. 4B., Guelph Tp., upon which he settled. He m. in Scot.,
Catharine Lawrence, and his family, at the time he came to Canada, consisted of
four children: Robert, Jr., William, George and Alexander.
Robert, Jr., m. Alice Coleman, and set. at Owen Sound at an early date, where he traded with the Indians. William, m. Mary Wingfield, dau. of the late George Wingfield. He owned the old homestead, and there brought up his family. Issue: Alexander, Jr., George, set. St. Joseph Island; Mrs. Alexander McIntosh, Kate, Robert, William, Mrs. John Newstead, Lizzie, James, John, Jessie, and Mrs. Hector Jackson. Alexander, Jr., m. Miss Margaret, dau. of the late Pringle Spiers, Jr. He learned the waggon maker's trade, and still follows it in conjunction with his farm, on lot 6, con. 3, Guelph Tp. Issue: Agnes, and Ellen. Robert, m. Jane Pringle, set. Guelph City. William, m. Gussie Edwards. He is agent of the C.P.R., at Kemptville Junction. James, m. Agnes Pringle, and owns the old Hadden homestead on the "Paisley Block," where he resides, and carries on mixed farming. John, m. Amelia Vance, set. Guelph City, and is now in N.W.T. George, son of the late Robert Hadden Sr., was for some time a general merchant on Lower Wyndham St. Guelph. He m. Miss Elliott, of Guelph; both are dead. Alexander, was with George in general merchandising business in Guelph. He m. Caroline, dau. of the late Major Heath. Issue: Maggie, and Minnie, d. Mrs. Hadden d. Mar. 1906.
