RICHARDSON, Robert
(d.), was b. in Westmorelandshire, Eng., in 1829. He
emigrated to Canada, settling first in Whitby Tp., where he m. Mary Burns of
the old pioneer family of that name of Whitby Tp. In 1854 they moved to
Minto, where he took up about 200 acres, con. 10, and commenced the active
life of home-making in the bush. This and other land that he later became
possessed of, he cleared. He was a very successful man in all of his
undertakings. He was public spirited, and took an active interest in both
secular and religious matters, and was one of the founders of the Know
Church, Harriston. He d. in 1884, aged 55, leaving a widow and three
children, as follows: Thomas, who m. Jane Leaitch, and owns and lives on lot
29, con. 10: James, who m. Margaret Stewart, and owns lot 80, con. D., and
Mrs. Edward H. Dewar, who resides in Harriston. The members of the Richardson
family have always occupied a respected place in the community.
