WELSH Family, The, are U. E. Loyalists. John Welsh left the U.S. and set. in Lennox and Addington Co. where David Welsh was b. near Napanee in 1816. In 1849 he came to Maryborough with his son David, and resided with him until his death n 1879. He is buried on Peter Johnson's farm. David first farmed in N. Gwillimbury, and came to Maryborough in 1849, bringing with him the first team of horses owned in Maryborough Tp. on of which he traded for 100 acres of land lot 8, con. 9, which he cleared and lived upon, He never sought office, and was a Methodist, and a strong Reformer. He m. Sarah Schammerhorn. Issue: John, who owns 50 acres pt. Lot 7, con. 9; Mrs. John Anderson (d.). Sutton; Mrs. Wm. Mitchell, con. 11, lot 5; Richard in Minnesota; Charles, in Moorefield; Josiah (d.), Moorefield; Richard, in Palmerston; Mrs. Albert Alkerman (d.), near Wingham; Mrs. Louis Evers (d.), Preston; Mrs. Joseph Hamilton, (d.) Man; Mrs. Geo. Booth, Man, and David, in Wingham.

Charles, b. 1839, in N. Gwillimbury Tp., was 10 years old when he came with his parents to Maryborough Tp. He was in Kent Co. for some time, and on returning was in the back end of ther homestead for a few years; later he bought 50 acres, lot 5 con. 10, which he sold and was then on 50 acres pt. lot 7 con. 9, after which he was in Mich. On year. IN 1870 he returned and has since lived in Moorefield. He is a Methodist , and a Reformer. He m. first Susannah Hicks. His second wife was Lydia Hill. Issue of first wife: William, Charles, cabinet maker, Lansing Mich.; David, blacksmith, Palmerston; Peter (d. 7); Mrs. Alex. Ross, Winnipeg; Ezra, tailor, in Mich. Second wife's issue: Mrs. Jno. McConnell, Toronto; Mrs. Adolphus Allendorf, Waterloo; Lily, clerk, Toronto; Wilber, blacksmith, Moorefield, and Edna, in Toronto.

William N. was b. in Kent Co., and was about 2 years old when he came to Maryborough Tp., where he has since lived. He has always farmed. After working out for 16 years, he rented 50 acres, the west quarter of lot 8, con. 10, for some years, and then bought 100 acres, east half lot 5, con. 11, and 5 years later sold it, and rented 75 acres, the south part of lot 3, con. 11, purchasing it in 1904. He has since lived there, and makes a specialty of dairying, keeping about 13 cows. He was for one year Director of the Rothsay cheese factory, and Secy.-Treas. S.S. No. 5, for six years. He is a Methodist, and a Reformer. He m. Carolina Graham. Issue: Pearl, Charles, Wallace (d.), Nellie, Ezra, Irwin (d.), and Bertha.
