COPLAND, John
, was b. in the parish of Kirkgaunzeon, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scot., in 1837.
He resided 15 -years in Liverpool, Eng., where he m. Annie Stuart, who d. in
1896, age 58. In 1869 they came to Canada and set. at Hamilton, and in 1871
came to Harriston. Two years later he purchased 100 acres, lot 11, con. 11,
in Minto. Mr. Copland has been a member of the Tp. Council and School
Trustee. He is a Baptist and a Liberal, and is now living retired in
Harriston. Issue: James Stuart, John Alexander, Margaret Dawson Stuart,
Malcolm Stuart, William T. H., and Frederick M., b. in Eng., and Arthur H.,
Ada B., Annie L., Matilda S., Mabel C., Septimus R., and Edgar A., b. in
Canada. James Stuart m. Anna Welford, set. in Brockville; John Alexander, is
proprietor and editor of, the Harriston Tribune, established in 1866, and
which he purchased in 1898. He m. Miss Helmina Bourdon, in 1886. Issue:
Helmina Annie, Alexander Stuart, and Mildred Elizabeth Mary. Margaret Dawson
Stuart is living in Harriston; Malcolm Stuart is a photographer in Harriston.
He m. Ethel Ainlay. Issue Annie. William T. H., owns and resides on lot 10,
con. 10, Minto. He m. Jennie Kimble, who d. leaving four children, Harvey,
Annie, Mabel and Ethel. He afterwards m. Elizabeth Leppington. Frederick M.
come into possession of the homestead of 100 acres, lot 11, con. 11, Minto, in
1899, where he carries on general farming, making a specialty of breeding full
blooded Hereford cattle. He is a member of the Baptist church and a Reformer
in politics. He m. Miss Ada L .Walker, a dau. of Thos. Walker, of
Harriston. Issue: Lawrence W.(d.), Albert J., Charles Frederick and Thomas
Stuart. Arthur H. Copland resides on lot 13, con. 11, Minto. He m. Sarah A.
Hughey. Issue: Hughey and Russell. Ada B. m. E. J. Mitchell, and set. in
Southampton. Issue: Edna and Harold. Annie L. m. Walter Hilson, set. Briar
Crest, Sask.; Matilda S. resides in Minto. Mabel C., m. William Hunt, Minto.
Issue: Alma E. C., Septimus Reginald, resides in Minto, lot 12, con. 11. He
m. May Holland. Edgar A. is living in Harriston.
