HUSSY, Frank
, b. Cavan Co., Ire., in 1824, and d. in Howie Tp., in 1889, age 65. He was a
farmer in Ire., and came to Canada and farmed in Simcoe Co., Essa Tp., for a
few years, and then in 1854, went to Wallace Tp., where he bought a farm on lot
36, con. 6, which he cleared. He would not hold municipal office, but was for
nearly 20 years School Trustee in Wallace Tp. He belonged to the Eng. church,
and was a Conservative in politics. He m. first Martha Jackson, in Ireland. His
second wife was Margaret Patterson. Issue of first wife: James, Robert, Grand
View Man.; Mrs. Whiteside (d.), in Simcoe Co.; Jackson, at Quill Lake. Second
issue: William, a travelling V.S.
James, b. in Essa Tp., Simcoe Co., in 1853, went to Wallace Tp., when one year old, and was raised there. At the age of 15, he went to Minto Tp., and worked on W. G. & B. R.R. At 17 years of age, he was brakesman on the 1st train that went through Southampton. In 1872, he came to Maryborough, and in 1876, m. Mary Braidwood, of the Braidwood pioneer family, who fell heir to their present farm of 96 acres north half lot 15, con. 10 upon which they have since lived. He has been School Trustee S.S. No. 17, for nearly 19 years, and was one of the first to take stock in the Rothsay Cheese Factory, of which he was Director, for 10 years altogether, at different times. He has been Director of the Peel and Drayton Agr. Society. He does not care for municipal office, is a Presbyterian, and a Conservative.
