SOCKETT, Captain George (d.), was a son of the late Rev. Thomas Sockett, Rector of Petworth, Sussex, Eng., where Capt. Sockett was b. in 1811. After receiving a liberal education he became Capt. of the 36th Regiment in Eng. and was stationed for a time in the Indies. In the early thirties he came to Canada and purchased 200 acres of land in Eramosa, lots 12 and 13, con. 4, where hs passed the remainder of his life. He owned 500 acres in Eramosa and 300 acres in Normanby. He was a man of great personal activity, of reserved disposition and highly respected by all. In the Rebellion of 1837 he used his influence to help his neighbors out of trouble. He m. Ruth Griffin, who was b. in 1822 and is still living in Guelph City. Issue: Thomas, Bruce Co.; George, Grey Co.; Henry (d.), James, Toronto; Charles, on the homestead; Mrs. Rich. McWilliams, and Mrs. Robert Johnston, in Guelph.

John Sockett, b. 1850, owns a farm on lot 8, con. 4, Eramosa. He makes a specialty of thoroughbred Shorthorns and Cotswold sheep. He m. Lucy Sunley. Issue: Ruth G., Hannah, George, Eliza Jennie, Stanley, Henry and Wilbert.
