YOUNG, Robert
(d.) , was b. Eaglesham, Scot., 1825. After finishing school he
learned the stone cutter's trade. He had m. Agnes Munn in 1849, and in 1853
they emigrated to America, settling first in New York State. They only remained
there two years, coming to Minto in 1855, where he purchased 100 acres, lot 36,
con. 7, which he cleared and became a prosperous and respected farmer. The
concession line road was only partially cut out when the Youngs came, and they
found their way in and out to their land for some time by the blazed path.
Robert Young was one of the promoters of Knox Church , and while he took a
healthy interest in the affairs of the community, neither sought or held
municipal office. He d. in 1897, age 72 years. Issue: William, John, James,
set. Man.; Robert (d. young); Thomas, Agnes, Margaret, Mrs. Thomas Thomson and
Mrs. James Thomson.
Thomas Young owns 200 acres, pts of lot 35 and 36, con. 6 Minto, on which he has a fine brick residence and good buildings.
