MARTIN, James
, b. Durham Co., Ont., 1835, where he was raised. In 1862 he
came to Minto, and purchased lot 19, con. 2, and has since resided on this
farm. He is a son of the late Samuel Martin, of Hope, who was b. Co. Armagh,
Ire., 1810, and came to Hope in 1832, and lived there until his death. He. M.
Agnes Kirkpatrick, who still survives, age 92 years. James Martin commenced
in Minto without money, and by his own efforts has risen to a position of
prosperity and influence. He m. Jane Smart. Issue: Samuel C., William, Thomas
(d.), Annie L., John A., Margaret E., Howard S., and Agnes S.
