FLEWELLING, Emery L
., the pioneer of the Flewelling family, came from Wales
in the early settlement of Wellington County. He first stopped in Lower
Nichol, and after his marriage, moved to West Garafraxa, and purchased a farm
now owned by Thomas Warmington. He was a successful farmer, and through his
lifetime accumulated land to the amount of 1,000 acres, most of which he
distributed among his sons before his death in 1893. His wife was a Miss
Mary Jane Boyce. She predeceased him by three years, and both are buried in
Belsyde cemetery at Fergus. Their family consisted of six sons and five
daughters. Thomas, Abraham, James, Emery, William, and Levi, and Mrs. Thos.
Warmington, Mrs. David Temple, Mrs. Jas. Hamilton, Mrs. Wm. Warmington, and
Mrs. Thos. Metcalf.
Emery, third son of the pioneer, m.. Ellen Warmington, who d. in 1904. Issue: Mrs. Thos. Moore, Nichol; William E. J., Wesley. West Garafraxa; Fred E., Peel; and Henry A., West Garafraxa. Mrs. Flewelling resides with his son William E. J. William, E. J., owns 200 acres, lots 20, 21, and part of lot 22, con. 1. He carries on mixed farming, and raises stock. He is a Methodist, and a Conservative. He m. Emma, dau. of John Hill of Elora. Issue: Irene, and Albert L. The Flewellings are among the successful farmers of the township of West Garafraxa.
