HUME, Peter (d.), b. Northumberland, Eng., 1779, d. 1862, age 83. He was originally of a Scotch family , and came to Canada and Puslinch Tp., in 1831. He had been a shepherd in Eng, He was a well informed man, and quite a reader. Mr. Hume was 52 years old when he came in 1831, and the work of clearing the farm fell on his sons. He bought all of lot 11, and from of lot 12, con. 10n Pusinch. He m. Catharine Howie. Issue: Thomas, Mrs. Wm. Scott, Adam, William, and Mrs. Thos. Arkell.

Thomas came out about 1836, and bought lot 15, rear con. 10, Puslinch.

Adam, b. 1808, d. 1863, came to Canada with his parents in 1831, and with his brother took up 300 acres, lots 11, 12, con. 10, Puslinch, which they cleared and worked together for some time. They had the first team of horses in the neighborhood. The Humes were hard workers, and first-class choppers, and at raisings were chosen for the corners of buildings. Adam took the front of lot 12, and part lot 11, con. 10. He was a Presbyterian and a Liberal. He m. Jane Murray. Issue: Mrs. Wm. Anderson (d.); Peter (d. 21); Robert, James, Mrs. Amaziah Kingsbury, and John.

James was b. in Puslinch, and has always lived on the homestead. He owns 200 acres, lot 12, front con. 10, and lot 12, rear con. 9. He was Councillor and Deputy Reeve for 8 years, going in by acclamation 6 times, and was for years, one of the Directors of Puslinch Agr. Society, (until 1904). He is one of the best business farmers in the section and has always worked hard. He raises a number of Cotswold sheep, showing at local fairs. He is a Presbyterian and an Independent in politics. He m. Eleanor Stewart of "Paisley Block." Issue: Mrs. Watt Grieve; Mrs. Henry Leachman, and Stewart who assists his father on the farm.

William, b. 1811, was 20 years old when he came to Puslinch Tp. with his parents. He took half of the homestead he share being front lot 11, and part of rear lot 11 con. 10. He m. Ann Anderson of Fifeshire, Scot. Issue: Peter, David, Thomas, William (d. 25); John, and James.

David, b. in Puslinch, works front lot 11, con. 10, 100 acres. He breeds Oxforddown sheep, and carried on mixed farming. He is one of the Managers of the Methodist church in Arkell, and in politics is a Liberal. He m. first, Jessie Henderson, second, Annie Campbell. Issue: of first, Mrs. Albert Swart, Mich., and John, Man.; second issue: Ellen, Alexander, in Man.; Duncan, at home; David T., and Boyd.
