PRITCHARD, William, Jr
., (d.), was the son of the late William Pritchard, Sr., who was b. in County
Cavan, Ire., and came to Cavan Tp., Durham Co., about 1833, being a pioneer
there, where he lived and died. The family were educated, and became prominent
not only in Durham Co., but their descendants compose the best citizenship in
the localities where they have located. The late Wm. Pritchard, Jr., was b. in
Cavan Tp., in 1834, where he m. Agnes Fee in 1860. She was a native of Co.,
Down, Ire., but lived in Scot. during her childhood, coming to Cavan when
eleven years of age. They had the following issue: John, Rev. William S.,
Joseph J., R. E., Harriston; Ernest, merchant at Newbridge; Stewart, in
Alberta; Mrs. (Rev.) John Mair, Mrs. Frederick Mahood, and Ida, recently m. and
set. in Granby, Quebec, where her husband is in the milling business.
The late William Pritchard and family came to Minto in 1876, where he purchased 186 acres on the township line of Minto and Howick, and there lived until his death in 1902, his widow surviving him. He was a man of sterling qualities, and became one of the most influential and respected citizens of the community. He gave his family a good education, two of his sons being graduates of McGill University. John the eldest son, purchased the homestead from his father, and later purchased an adjoining farm of 77 acres, and another of 100, making in all 363 acres. which in cultivation and appointments is one of t best farms in the county. He makes a specialty of buying , feeding and fitting cattle for the English market, and is one of Minto's most prosperous and enterprising citizens. He m. Mary A. Bacon in 1886.
