BOYD, Elias
, b. Co. Fermanagh, Ire., 1844. He was the youngest son of the late John Boyd,
and came to Canada and set. first in Port Hope, and came to Arthur in 1852. At
that time it was all bush, without even a blazed path to follow, and the were
obliged to carry all of their provisions from Fergus. In summers they went to
Wentworth for the harvest in order to earn money. They succeeded in clearing
the Boyd estate, however, of 200 acres, without any outside help, acquiring all
of their property by their own exertions. Mr. John Boyd was a local preacher
in the early days, and held services among the neighbours in their different
homes.
Elias Boyd, the subject of this sketch, owns 50 acres, lot 26, con. 7, Arthur, and has been a life-long Orangeman and a Conservative. In religion he belongs to the English Church. In 1866 he m.
