FALLIS, Robert
, one of the prominent citizens of Minto, was b. In
Enniskillen, Ire., 1832, and when eighteen years of age emigrated to Canada.
Settling first in Cavan, and in 1856, came up to Minto, purchasing lot 42,
Con 10, which he cleared and brought to a high state of cultivation. He lived
upon it until 1876, when he sold out, and purchased 200 acres, lots 38 and 39,
Con. 5, which is considered, in improvements and from every standpoint, one
of the most desireable in Minto. He paid $10,000 for this farm in 1876.
Robert Fallis has always been a man of great personal activity and to this
his well-directed ability, his success in life has been due. He is not only a
first-class farmer, but a horticulturist of no mean order, as his well-kept
orchard indicates. His fruit took the first prize at the Pan-American
Exhibition at Buffalo. He was one of the active promoters in getting the
Harriston Pork Packing Co. established. In politics he is a Conservative.
Mr. Fallis is a man of strong opinions, and has the courage of his convictions. He is reliable and straightforward in all his dealings, and has the respect and confidence of all who know him. In 1860 he m. Sarah Fallis of Cavan Township. They have had eight children: Mrs. Adam Wren, in New Bridge; Elizabeth, in Toronto; William R., in Minto, he m.
