HAMILTON, John R . The first Town Clerk and Treas. of Palmerston, was b. in Enniskillen Co., Fermanagh, Ire. in 1837, and came to Canada with his parents in 1846. They settled in Milton, Halton Co., where John R. Hamilton was raised and educated. In 1872, he came to Palmerston, where he carried on the real estate, conveyancing and insurance business, until his death in 1906. His son, Arthur R. Hamilton, who is a graduate of Toronto University, and is a Barrister-at-Law, succeeded to the business.

John R. Hamilton m. Caroline Magee, of the pioneer Magee family of Peel Tp. He was an active member of the Methodist church, and one of the most respected men in the community.
