LOWES, William (d.), b. Cumberland, Eng.; d. in 1863, age 63. He was a farmer in Eng. and came to Canada at 20 years of age. In 1820 he set. in Cavan Tp., where he took up a farm. In 1850 he came to Peel Tp. and purchased a farm, lot 3, con. 14, and upon which he lived until his death. He was a School Trustee for years, and was a Methodist and a Reformer. He m. Eliza McCarroll. Issue: John (d. near Brandon), Matthew, Yorkton; Mrs. George Adams, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Mrs. (Rev. ) J. R. Forman(d.), William H., Mrs. John Burrows, Grand Rapids, Mich.; James (d.), Grand Rapids; Robert and Albert Grand Rapids.

William H., whose portrait appears in this work, was b. in Cavan Tp., and came to Peel with his parents at fourteen years of age. In 1860, at twenty-four years of age, he opened a store in Rothsay, taking over the business of William West, and has since conducted it. In 1864 he was appointed a Justice of the Peace, and in 1886 a Police Magistrate, and still holds these offices. He was in the Township Council for three years, and has been Postmaster since 1880. In religion he is a Methodist, and in politics a strong Reformer. He m. Catharine West. Issue: Ella, at home; Carrie, Thomas H., Albert M., and Edith, in Grayson Sask.
