JAMIESON, Joseph.
The subject of this sketch is a son of the late William Jamieson, a
native of Londonderry, Ire., and set. at Perth, Ont., 1818. Judge Jamieson, was
b. in Sherbrooke, Co. of Lanark, Ont., March 15, 1839. He was educated at the
Perth Grammar School, and was called to the bar in 1869. He was created a Q.C.
by the Earl of Derby, 1889. He was a Liberal-Conservative, and took an active
part in politics. He became Reeve of Almonte, and Warden of Lanark, and
although he twice unsuccessfully contested North Lanark for the House of
Commons, he was subsequently elected at the general election, 1882, and
continued to represent North Lanark in the Commons until his appointment as Jr.
Co. Ct. Judge for Wellington, Dec. 8, 1891. When in Parliament he was a strong
supporter of prohibition, and moved a resolution in favor of its adoption. He
m., Nov., 1865, Elizabeth, eldest dau. of Robert Carss.
