READING, David (d.), was b. Warwickshire, Eng., 1827. When twenty years of age he came to Canada and set. in the "Paisley Block," Guelph Tp. When the land in Minto was open for sale, he purchased 106 acres lot 31, con. 18, and did settlement duty about three years, when he rented his Minto farm and returned to the "Paisley Block," where he resided for sixteen years. He came back to the Minto farm in 1866 and lived there until his death in 1901. He m. Charlotte, eldest, dau. of Samuel Reading of Guelph. The late David Reading started life without money, and by industry and good management became an influential and prosperous citizen. He was well known and highly respected, both in Guelph and in Minto. He was a consistent member of the Methodist church, and in politics a Conservative. He left the following issue: James, of Wingham; Mrs. William Nichol, of Man.; Samuel, Clifford Gas Works; Mrs. Charles Murray, of Howick; and George, who m. Maria, third dau. of Robert Davis of Wiarton, Ont., and lives on the old Minto homestead, where he carries on mixed farming and is one of the substantial farmers of Minto.

The members of this family are all highly respected.
