MOFFATT, John , (d) born in Leith, Scotland died 1904, age 72. He cam to Canada in 1857 and settled in Fergus, where he carried on the business of contractor and builder, and became very successful. He put a great many of the buildings in Fergus, and in 1904, was killed by an accident while at work on the Melville Presbyterian Church building. Mr. Moffatt was a Presbyterian and in politics a Reformer. He was one of the early Councillors and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He m. Janet Black of Scotland. Issue: Alexander, Robert, James, Marion, John, David, Annie (d.) and Thomas.

John Moffatt succeeded to his father's business which he successfully caries on. He takes an active interest in public affairs, and served in the Fergus Council for three successive years, and at this writing is Reeve of the town. He is also active in his church, the Presbyterian, and is teacher in the Sunday School. In politics he is a Reformer. He m. Mary Archibald, daughter of the late John Archibald. They have one daughter, Pearl G., who is a fine pianist, having taken three diplomas from different colleges of music.
