STICKNEY, John (d.). The late John Stickney, of Pilkington, was b. in Yorkshire, Eng., and d. in 1853, at the age of 75. He came to Canada in 1834 settling first in Montreal, later in Vaughan Township, and in Pilkington in 1847. He belonged to the English church, and was a Conservative. He m. Ann Elizabeth Matchwell, who d. in 1865, at the age of 67. Issue: William (d.), John, Francis, (d.), George (d.), Richard, Joseph and Thomas.

John Stickney was b. in Yorkshire, Eng,. In 1824, and came to Canada when nine years old, with his father and brothers. After living in Vaughan Tp. for a time, they set. in Pilkington in 1847. Later he purchased 195 acres, lot 15, con. 6, Peel, where his son Albert O. now resides. Mr. Stickney is a man of great personal activity, taking a strong interest in municipal and church affairs. He had nothing to start with, and cleared 270 acres of land. He was a Justice of the Peace, appointed by the Mowat Government, and also a Councillor for ten years, and Deputy Reeve two years. He has filled all the offices of the Meth. church, and in politics he is a Liberal. He is now living retired in Elmira. He m. Annie E. Bilton, who is living , age 75. Issue: John, in Guelph; William, in Guelph; George (d.), Annie L. (d.), Mrs. Thackeray, Port Huron; Mrs. Beggs, Waterloo; Mrs. Letson, Pilkington; Michael, Peel; Albert O., Peel; Mrs. Cherry, Peel; Reuben, Manitoba; Matthew W., Port Huron.

John, m. Sarah Anderson, and set. in Guelph. He is a Methodist and a Liberal.

William, m. Eliza Bird, and set. in Guelph. He is a Methodist and a Liberal.

Michael, m. Eva Briston, and set. on lot 13, con. 6, Peel. He is a Methodist and a Liberal. Issue: Roy B., and Elizabeth.

Albert O., is a young man of high standing in his neighborhood. He is Secy. Treas. of the Meth. church, and a School Trustee. He is a Liberal in politics. In 1897 he m. Permila Matthews.

George Stickney, late of Peel, was b. in England, in 1828, and d. in 1903. He came to Canada with his father and brothers in 1834. They first set. in Vaughan Tp., and later removed to Pilkington, where they purchased a tract of land, and worked together until it was paid for, when they put up their buildings and divided it. George sold his share and came to Peel in 1869, where he purchased 400 acres, lots 14 and 15, con. 7, upon which he resided until his death. Mr. Stickney was of a retiring disposition, highly esteemed, and had the confidence of his neighbors. He made money and prospered, leaving property of the value of $28,000. He was a Methodist and a Conservative, and held the office of School Trustee for years. He m. in 1863, Ulina Coxhood, who is living, age 65. Issue: Mrs. Goodwin, Toronto; Ceasar, Mrs. Johnston (d.), Benjamin, Alfred and Arthur, living with their mother on the old homestead.

Ceasar Stickney, owns 147 acres on lot 15, con. 6, of Peel, where he carries on mixed farming. He is a very active man, and a much respected citizen. He is a Methodist and a Conservative, and is Trustee and Secretary of the School Board. In 1894, he m. Hannah Kelly. Issue: Reginald, Ross and Amy.

Richard Stickney, Sr., was b. in Yorkshire, Eng., in 1830, and came to Canada in 1834, with the other members of his father's family. In 1864 he removed from Pilkington to Peel, and purchased 150 acres on lot 15, con. 7. A few years later he engaged in the oat meal milling business in Elora. He has recently retired, and is living in Oxford County. He is a man of fine business ability. He held the office of Councillor for many years, and was Steward in the Methodist church for along time. In politics he is a Liberal. He m. Hannah Boys, who d. at the age of 38. Issue: Joseph, in Toronto; Richard, Rebecca (d.), Thomas, in Peel, but has recently sold out; Noah, in Oxford Co., Mrs. D. Fleming, in the North-West; Mrs. John Hadden, Guelph, and Mrs. Alex Clark, Guelph. His second wife was Mahala Card.

Richard Stickney, J., owns 200 acres, lot 10, con. 7, Peel, where he is engaged in mixed farming. He has all the modern improvements, including a gasoline engine to do his threshing, grinding, etc. He is a man of great personal activity, very successful, and highly respected. He is a Methodist and a Liberal. In 1883 he m. Margaret Walker. Issue: Adora, Elsie H. J., Ellen B., and Rhinaldo J. C.

Joseph (retired) lives on lot 7, con. 5. Pilkington. He owns in all 355 acres, which he has acquired by is own industry. He is a Methodist and a Conservative. He has been Councillor eight years and School Trustee nine years. He m. Mary Younger, who is living, age 67. Issue: Isaac, Mrs. Asias Hilborn, set. in U.S.; Mrs. Edward Marshall, set. Pilkington; Levi and Robert, at home on the farm; Mrs. Milford Auger, set. in Pilkington.

Isaac, son of Joseph Stickney, owns 100 acres of land on lot 11, con. 6. He raises grade cattle, Yorkshire hogs, Leicester sheep and feeds cattle for export. He is a member of the English church, and in politics a Conservative. He, Louise Doyle.

Thomas m. Mary Ann Hall and set. in Pilkington.
