KEARNS, John
, of Palmerston, was b. in Albion in 1836, and was there raised, and m. Miss
Stevenson. They came to Wallace in 1852, when he set. on this present farm
adjoining the corporation of Palmerston, where he owns 200 acres, and has since
resided. He cleared this farm before Palmerston existed, being one of the
pioneer settlers in the section. That he has always been a leading man in
Wallace and Palmerston is evidenced by the fact that his was one of the first
Councillors in the township, and served as such for twenty years, and as Reeve
for ten years, and Co. Commissioner two years. He was early appointed a
Magistrate, and in all public position has served with credit to himself and to
the advantage and satisfaction of the community. He is a Trustee in the
Methodist church, and had been a member of the Quarterly Board. As a citizen he
has the confidence and respect of all who know him. Issue: Mrs. Wm. Lepord, W.
Shepherd, Annie, Ross, Charles L., Alice and Addie.
W. Shepherd m. Margaret Welsh, on the corporate limits of Palmerston. He has been in the Palmerston Council for five years, and, like his father, is a Conservative, and is a member of the Methodist church. His father has been for years a large and successful breeder of thoroughbred Shorthorns, and W. Shepherd also makes a specialty of this line. Issue: Margaret and Harry.
