BRYDON, Robert Sr. (d). This respected pioneer, whose portrait appears on another page of this work, came to Canada and to the "Paisley Block," with the Cleghorns, in 1831, and at the time of his arrival his cash capital amounted to just fifty cents. He was b. in Roxburghshire, Scot., in 1805, and at the age of twenty-six joined the tide of emigration from that district to what was then the wilds of Canada. Some years after his arrival he purchased 88 acres, and later 95 acres, in the "Paisley Block," and cleared the same. He m. Ellen Elliott, dau. of the late Wm. Elliott, mentioned elsewhere in this work. The late Robert Brydon occupied a very high place in the community. He was a man of strict integrity, a good neighbour and friend, having a personality that drew people towards him, gaining their full confidence, which he never betrayed. He was active in church matters, being a Manager of Knox Pres. Church for many years. In his business ventures he was successful, leaving, besides an enviable reputation, a fine inheritance to his descendants. He d. in 1880, age 75 years, while his wife d. in 1901, age 82. Issue: Janet, Mrs. John Richardson, Robert Jr., William, James, George, Mrs. John Johnson, John, Mrs. Wm. McCandless, Walter and Donald.

Robert, Jr., was b. and raised on the "Paisley Block" homestead. In 1868 he purchased 100 acres of land, lot 21, con. 4, Eramosa, where he has since resided. He m. Mary Luttrell. Issue: Robert J., Alexander, Harriet, Helen, Adelaide, Janet and Margaret.His farm and improvements are of the best, the result of the energy and thrift of himself and his family. While he has never sought or, held municipal office, Robert Brydon, Jr., is a leading man in the community. The family are active in the Presbyterian Church, the eldest son, Robert J., being a graduate of Queen's University and a Presbyterian minister. Alexander assists on the home farm. William is a contractor in Winnipeg. James m. Harriet McCandless, and set. in Proton. Issue: Robert D., Margaret, Helen, William and James, Jr. George m. Georgina Manderson, set Maryborough, lot 15, con. 2, where he owns 100 acres and is a successful farmer. Issue: Harriet and John D. John m. Hannah Hewitson, set. Eramosa. Issue: Helen, Bertha, Christina, May and Edna. Walter m. Jennie Taylor. He owns and lives on the old Hobson farm of 171 acres, at Mosborough. Issue: Ruth, Ellen, James, Walter, Jr., and Jennie A. Donald m. Margaret McIntosh, and owns the old homestead (121 acres) "Paisley Block." Issue: Robert and William.

The members of the Brydon family keep up the traditions of their father in good citizenship, and are successful and substantial farmers.
