SLEEMAN, John , of Maryborough, was b. Cornwall, Eng., in 1825, is living, age 80. He was a farmer in Eng, and came to Canada in 1847. He was for 6 years in Grafton, Northumberland Co., and about 14 months in Hamilton. He came to Maryborough in 1855, and bought 100 acres, pt. lot 7, con. 12, where he has since lived. He was asked to join the surveying party when he came, but preferred to stay at home and clear his farm, on which he cut the first tree. He still owns 58 1/3 acres. He was Trustee S.S. No. 10, con 12, for three years, but never sought of held other municipal office. He was a Methodist and an Independent Reformer. He m. Mary Ann Lobb. Issue: James, at home; George, and Samuel in Kincardine.

George was 3 years old when he came to Maryborough in 1855. He rented farms in Peel, Luther and Maryborough Tps., for 14 years, and in 1891, bought the Travis estate of 75 acres, part of lot 3, con. 11, and has since farmed it. He is a Methodist and a Reformer. He m. Dorothy Stedman. Issue: Mrs. W. H. Johnston, Man.; Mrs. Wm. Schmans, Man.; John, with his grandfather; George, at home, assisting his father.
