McWILLIAMS, Charles
(d.), b. in County Tyrone, Ire., in 1817, came to
Puslinch, when fourteen years old, with his father, mother, and the following
brothers and sisters, viz: Rebecca, Mrs. R. McWilliams, Robert, and Mrs.
Robert Patterson. He was practically raised in Puslinch, and there passed is
long and useful life. He was the first Assessor in Puslinch, and for years,
was one of its most active and useful citizens, and had the confidence and
respect of all classes. He was very successful, leaving at the time of his
death 200 acres of land, lots 17 and 18, con. 5. He m. Margaret Patterson of
Gueph. They were consistent members and regular attendants of the Church of
England. He d. in 1883, age 76 years, while she pre-deceased him two years,
passing away in 1881, age 64. Issue: John D., Mrs. Hamilton Laird, Mrs.
Thomas Parker, Richard A. (d. age 21) ; Charles 'Walter, Mrs. Angus Stewart,
and Elizabeth.
John D. m. Mary Carter (d.), and resides in Puslinch. Charles Walter, b. in. Puslinch, has always lived on the homestead, which he now owns. He m. Julia McMillan, dau. of Hugh McMillan, of the pioneer McMillan family of Erin, and they have had the following issue: Hugh C., Arnold, Margaretta, Albert, and Mary Maud. The family attend St. James' Church, Guelph. As will be seen, the McWilliams family are connected by marriage and otherwise, with some of the best families in the county.
